Where to find wildlife

Top nature reserves

Discover the wild Avon on your doorstep by exploring our nature reserves.  Pack a picnic, grab your walking boots and enjoy the beauty and wildlife you’ll find all year round.

We manage 30 nature reserves across the Avon region, from ancient woodlands to wildflower grassland meadows, and wetland marshes near the Severn Estuary. These varied landscapes are home to hundreds of species of birds, insects and other wild animals. Whether you’re looking for a tranquil stroll out in nature, a picnic spot in a bluebell wood, or a great place for bird watching, we’ve got a reserve for you.  We’ve picked out some of our most popular reserves here – or you can search our full list of reserves below to see what’s near you.

How we look after our reserves

Across our reserves we’re working hard to protect wildlife, including some of the most threatened species in the UK like lapwing, greater horseshoe bats and dormice. We’re managing these habitats, and other land across Avon, to create living landscapes across our region – large-scale areas of land which wildlife can freely shelter in, move through and thrive in.
