The recent rolling heatwaves are yet another reminder of the effects of our changing climate. As the frequency of extreme weather events increases, there is a pressing need to speed up how we adapt to the new normal while also attempting to mitigate the effects.
At Avon Wildlife Trust, we hear and see great examples from our members and from local community groups who are taking action where they live. From conserving water to planting for wildlife, choosing active travel options to leaving wild areas for nature, all actions have a cumulative positive effect. But what are the options at a landscape scale?
One of the most exciting and visionary projects for Avon Wildlife Trust has received a huge boost this week. With a generous grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Ebdon Farm on the North Somerset Levels and Moors will be transformed into a climate resilient landscape that brings benefits for wildlife, farming, and the wider community.
Ebdon Farm is a 44-hectare former dairy farm on the North Somerset Levels and Moors and is at significant risk from climate change impacts. Transforming this land is the largest initiative ever undertaken by Avon Wildlife Trust and follows more than 12 months of community engagement, species monitoring, and surveying, to learn from the land and the local community.
