We are looking for weekend support to help run site operations during the growing season, based at our stunning Grow Wilder site.

We are looking for weekend support to help run site operations during the growing season, based at our stunning Grow Wilder site.

We are looking for two or more Support Crew for Grow Wilder, Avon Wildlife Trust's flagship reserve in north Bristol. You will be helping to run site operations, mainly on Saturday, but there may be evening and other weekend work available.

The amount of work we can offer depends on demand and will vary across the year. We are looking for people who can start as soon as possible and over the summer months.

Work Location: Grow Wilder, 181 Frenchay Park Road, Bristol, BS16 1EL

Brief: Saturday team members for day shifts, helping to run site operations.

Timelines: Between March to October initially. Subject to successful outcomes, we may consider offering more shifts on additional days.

Shift times: Typically 9.00am – 5.00pm, with some minor variation possible, depending on the day requirements, including a 20 minute break. These will be specified in advance of the shift.

Pay: £13.59 per hour plus 12.07% rolled-up pay for holiday entitlement.

We have robust safeguarding policies, this role requires two references and you must be willing to undergo a DBS check.

Training available: You will be given a full site induction and will shadow site staff initially, with a view to becoming autonomous over time.

We will consult the Grow Wilder Risk Assessment and ensure you are comfortable with all tasks and well equipped to handle various scenarios.

Ideally you will have a valid first aid certificate including outdoor first aid.

Reporting to: Grow Wilder Site Manager or other members of staff

We will be asking you to do some or all of the following:

 Tasks 

  • First point of contact for site visitors and customer questions
  • Oversee site operations with a view to keeping people safe and informed
  • Open up and lock up for space hires
  • Wildflower sales
  • Vegetable sales
  • Watering
  • Event support, including handling questions or general site requests from the catering team
  • Any ad hoc queries or wider assistance to individuals and groups as needed.

Skills required for the post:

  • Good communication skills, be able to engage with individuals and groups in a welcoming and informative way.
  • Have a broad awareness of health and safety on site. Be aware of the kinds of risks that can occur when opening to the public and an understanding of suitable interventions necessary to keep everyone safe.
  • Have a keen interest in the work that Grow Wilder is doing and insights into the type of groups that want to use the space.
  • Demonstrate experience of taking responsibility for resources such as money, physical assets (for example,  buildings, spaces or equipment) and people.
