Youth Event: Evening Bat Walk in Stoke Park
Event details
About the event
Did you know there are 18 different species of bat in the UK? Did you know they are the only true flying mammals in the world? Join us for an evening walk through Grow Wilder and across to Stoke Park to see these great creatures in action.
Meeting at Avon Wildlife Trust’s urban nature reserve, Grow Wilder we will talk about the bats of the UK – including their habitats, their yearly cycle and why they need protecting. As we walk over to Stoke Park, we will discuss their biology and ecology, while using bat detectors to help us identify the bats we see. No prior knowledge of bats is needed for this event.
This will be an active session in an outdoor space, and will take place no matter the weather - so dress for the weather! Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a torch. As we walk back to Grow Wilder it will be getting dark and the ground is uneven.
The walk will start and end at Grow Wilder, which can be found at 181 Frenchay Park Road, Bristol, BS16 1El. It is easily accessible from the city centre via bus using Metrocus routes M1, M3 or M4.
This event is part of our Youth Programme so we ask anyone attending to be between 14-25 years old. Anyone under 18 must have parental consent to attend. Parents and siblings are also welcome.
This event is suitable for young people from any level of knowledge or experience! Come along and say hello, meet new people and learn a new skill.
