Take on the Winter Green Man Ultra 30 and protect local wildlife

Are you looking to undertake an ambitious physical challenge in 2023 while connecting with nature and raising money for wildlife? Get a running start on your New Year’s resolutions by taking on the Winter Green Man Ultra 30 for Avon Wildlife Trust.

New years often come with resolutions to become your best self. Did you resolve to undertake an ambitious physical challenge this year? How about spending more time outdoors, or doing some good for a local charity in 2023? You could knock out all those goals at once by participating in the Winter Green Man Ultra 30 for Avon Wildlife Trust this March!

I'm ready for the challenge

By entering the Green Man Ultra 30 and pledging to fundraise for Avon Wildlife Trust, you’ll be training for a great cause and benefitting Bristol’s wildlife. We are our region’s largest local wildlife charity and have been chosen as Ultra Running Limited’s charity partner for the Winter Green Man Ultra 2023.

The Green Man Ultra is more than your average “ultra-run.” It’s a great challenge for keen runners looking to go beyond the level of a marathon, while also being an ideal way to connect with nature.

The Green Man Ultra primarily follows the Community Forest Path, which takes participants through a network of green routes just outside of central Bristol. Runners are also challenged to navigate the route themselves, requiring practice and lots of connection with the great outdoors.

At Avon Wildlife Trust, we’re excited to partner with an event that encourages nature connection and supports natural green spaces. Through the Green Man Ultra, Ultra Running Limited has donated over £1,000 to the upkeep of the community forest path!

The Green Man challenge goes far beyond one ultra-run. It has a community of proud Woodwoses, a term derived from the Old English wuduwāsa or wood-beings, originally used to describe wild creatures who roamed medieval woods. Modern Woodwoses pride themselves on completing the full 45-mile Community Forest Path in one day. We hope some existing and aspiring Woodwoses will join our team of Avon Wildlife Trust runners, as we have no doubt we have a true shared interest in protecting and celebrating nature and local wildlife.

How do I start preparing for the Green Man Ultra?

If this feels like the New Year's resolution for you, first off you'll need to ensure you are physically ready for a one day, 30 mile challenge. This means you’re already a keen runner or have trained for a running event before.

Next, consider your goals in supporting charity for 2023. Avon Wildlife Trust are selling 10 charity places for £50 each, with the aim that each participant will raise £400 for wildlife. If you’ve been wanting to take on a challenge and raise awareness and funds for a beloved wildlife charity, this could be your time to act.

What if I want more of a challenge?

Do you feel like you want an even greater challenge than the Green Man Ultra 30? We can offer you one of our charity places and have it transferred to the full Green Man Ultra 45 so you can claim your official status of Woodwose in 2023!

I already have a place in the Green Man Ultra, can I still fundraise?

Absolutely! Visit our webpage and register to fundraise for us with no minimum requirement.
