About the event

Join us at Grow Wilder to explore the fantastic world of forest gardening!

Forest gardens, or food forests, combine edible, useful and complimentary perennial plants in a layered system. Incorporating fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, vines, and perennial vegetables this approach creates a productive, low-maintenance and sustainable food-growing system which can be adapted to suit any size space.

These systems can be very complex but don’t let that put you off - they can also be very productive, efficient, resilient and pack a lot of variety and biodiversity into a small area.

We are delighted to welcome Rob Handy to lead this course and share his wealth of knowledge on the subject. Rob has spent the last 13 years planning, establishing and developing his own productive forest garden in East Harptree.

This 1-day course will explore:

-Fundamental principles of forest garden design

-Key considerations when planning and implementing forest garden principles in your growing space

-Forest garden layers and plant selection

-Successes and opportunities using Rob’s own forest garden and Grow Wilder as examples

This course will provide a blend of classroom and outdoor learning. The classroom space and majority of the forest garden is accessible via wheelchair.

There is one discounted ticket available for those on no or reduced income - please contact learning@avonwildlifetrust.org.uk if you are interested in booking this ticket.

By supporting the courses and workshops we offer you're contributing directly to Grow Wilder - maintaining our site, developing of our learning programme and helping us to pay tutors fairly for their time and expertise - thank you!
