Plans for Ebdon Farm Nature Reserve
We acquired Ebdon Farm in March 2025 and have since been working with hydrologists, landscape designers, architects, ecologists and the local community to co-create designs for the future of the former dairy farm.
The designs will take place in stages. Phase one will focus on wetland habitat creation in the north of the site, renovation of the farmhouses to create two holiday lets and a newly created community area, which will see a new area of the site open to the public.
The co-created designs focus on maximising habitat creation that will support vulnerable species, being squeezed by the twin threats of climate change and habitat loss, as well as creating opportunities for people to connect with their local environment.
Below you will find our initial ideas for Ebdon Farm and the areas we are focusing on. Please be aware that these designs are not final and are subject to change.
The Community Area
The community area is made up to two fields that have previously been used to graze cattle. The river Banwell runs along one side of the fields and the bridleway along the other.
Avon Wildlife Trust will be contributing to the community area with our expertise on creating habitat. We’d like to include features such as ponds and small areas of tree planting. We also listened to the local community and understand the desire to create habitat for pollinators, so we'll be aiming to create bee banks and areas of wildflower planting.
To support people in visiting Ebdon Farm, we'll be including a seating area that can be covered in bad weather.
The orchard was also important to the local community, creating education and volunteering opportunities in its creation and maintenance.
