Making a pond or simple water feature can be the best way to greatly increase wildlife in your garden. Come and be inspired on our wildlife pond workshop, with ideas on how to create and maintain your own watery haven, big or small. We’ll also look above and below the surface to explore the ecology of all the amazing wildlife a simple pond can support.

About the event

Ecologist Alex Morss will explain why wildlife ponds matter so much, options for creating, maintaining and improving them and recommend good wildlife pond plants. Discover what surprising wildlife you can attract and fascinating facts about their ecology. We will also have some wet fun exploring what dwells in the wildlife ponds at Feed Bristol’s stunning wildlife gardens and have a go at identifying some of it. We will also discuss pond wildlife surveying, identification and recording techniques.


* Familiarity with good methods for creating wildlife ponds and their maintenance.

* Introduction to a range of good and bad wildlife pond plants.

* An overview of why ponds matter - the wildlife that benefits from ponds and designing with those in mind.

What to bring

-Wellies if you’d like to pond dip (optional) and suitable outdoor clothing as some of the activities will be outside. 

-Any favourite identification keys or hand lenses if you happen to have them, but we will have resources available to use.
