Avon Wildlife Trust has been working with schools in Avon for over 25 years, delivering projects, giving advice and training teachers, providing inspiration for using woods, ponds, meadows, playgrounds and allotments as places for learning.

Our commitment to out of classroom learning with experienced and enthusiastic staff ensures memorable experiences for pupils and teachers alike. We have learning centres at Folly Farm, Portbury Wharf, and Willsbridge Mill, which is currently closed due to redevelopment.

Hi, my name is Jo and I am the Learning Development Manager for Avon Wildlife Trust. I love the variety of my job and working with so many different groups.

My week can include leading primary school residentials discovering wildlife at night, teaching secondary school students on ecology and geography courses, working with University students, meeting teachers and delivering training.  I also enjoy leading our bushcraft and owl prowl courses for people interested in exploring nature as well as managing the team and planning our future developments.

I have always been fascinated by nature and love sharing my passion for the outdoors. I have worked in field studies and environmental education for over ten years.  I love exploring and adventurous travels and I'm always excitingly planning my next adventure.

You can contact me at jomorris@avonwildlifetrust.org.uk, or call me on 0117 9177270.

quality of teaching was outstanding”

Hi, my name is Julie and I am the Learning Development Officer for Avon Wildlife Trust. I love my job as I'm doing something different every day.

My week can include taking primary students out to explore wild places, developing new exciting courses, working with volunteers, creating resources or trialling ways to use technology when learning outside the classroom. I love pond dipping and seeing the excitement on students faces when they discover something new.

I originally trained as a teacher, and having always had a passion for the outdoors it's great to have a job which combines the two. I'm usually found marvelling over the latest gadget in the office...

You can contact me at juliedoherty@avonwildlifetrust.org.uk, or call me on 0117 9177270.

My Green WorldThe Learning Team also work with Cathy Mayne and Anna Stevens from My Green World to deliver Key Stage 1 and Earth Education programmes at Folly farm.

We actively encourage schools to use their local green spaces for learning and currently have 'Wild Avon' projects in Southmead and Bath. Read more on this on our At your school page. If you'd like to know more about these projects or get involved, contact juliedoherty@avonwildlifetrust.org.uk
