The first G.R.T. work party on Breach Hill Common |
Volunteers have been working alongside
the team since day one, bringing an enormous amount
to the project.
Most of our volunteers are involved
in fieldwork, visiting farmers to get permission to
access their land, and then undertaking grassland surveys.
Several volunteers are also providing essential support
in the office, helping with data management, research and planning
for the next survey season.
So far, volunteers have given the equivalent of 459 days to the project since it started in 2008. In 2010 alone, they helped us survey an amazing 896 hectares of grassland across Avon.
Without our volunteers' commitment and hard work we would not be able to achieve so much and we are very grateful for their contribution.
NEW! The Grassland Restoration Team
Following up on the many surveys carried out by volunteers, we have now started a conservation task force which is targeting fields that have been surveyed and can be brought into better condition by action to control scrub and invasive weeds, erect fencing and other jobs that the landowner or farmer has not got the resources to carry out.
We meet on Tuesdays at 9.15 and you are more than welcome to join us for some fresh air, excercise, learn more about our work, visit beautiful places off the beaten track and meet interesting people!

A volunteer's experience
Tony says:
"I most enjoyed working with other people on the same tasks, enjoying interesting conversations with them and going to lots of new sites that therefore gave me a better picture of the landscape and wildlife of the region"
