After retiring as a lecturer, Ben has since turned his attention to his local community of Bedminster and Southville, where he has been a community activist for over 20 years.

My favourite urban wildlife moment is standing on Gaolferry Bridge over the Avon New Cut watching a grey heron flying underneath

In this time, Ben has been involved with many projects including a heritage lottery funded project 'South Bristol Riverscapes' and has helped establish a number of local park groups.

Ben was appointed secretary of the Greater Bedminster Community Partnership in 2007, a role that he continues to undertake.

Ben is helping to lead 'My Wild Bedminster'.
