Updated statement on Portbury Wharf

Wednesday 23rd December 2015

As 2015 draws to a close, Avon Wildlife Trust is disappointed that North Somerset Council has still not made a final decision on who will manage the nature reserve at Portbury Wharf. Despite ongoing attempts on behalf of the Trust to engage the PMML Board in discussion about the best course of future action, there has been no response.

As of 31 December 2015, Avon Wildlife Trust will receive no further funding to manage the nature reserve. This leaves the Trust with no other option but to step down from our management role. North Somerset Council has deferred its decision on who will be responsible for the future management of the site until January 2016.

Avon Wildlife Trust remains open to future involvement. We hope that a decision will be forthcoming early in the New Year to ensure that the wildlife on the nature reserve is protected in perpetuity, as per the commitments made by Persimmon Homes to offset the impact of the development of 2,600 houses on the Portbury Wharf site.
